Sian Pointon

Hi I’m Sian. I am currently at Otago University studying Biomedical Sciences.

In high school I studied NCEA and was lucky enough to receive excellence endorsed over levels 1,2 and 3. I received an outstanding scholarship in Biology and a scholarship in Statistics. I also was privileged to be awarded a Top Scholar award at Baradene College as well as first in level 3 Statistics. I have had 3 years of experience tutoring and am comfortable tutoring NCEA Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Statistics (I would have to say stats is the favorite!).

When tutoring, I like to break down the question into steps and add to knowledge the

student has to guide them through to a complete answer. I like to work with the student to find a method of answering questions that works for them and they are able to apply to future problems.

I am well aware of the balancing act that high school can be and appreciate that studies must be managed alongside sports, hobbies, and leadership roles. I was a part of the house leader committee in high school as well as a member of the waterpolo team. I hope to be able to provide a bit of insight as to how to manage this and give some tips to make the sometimes-difficult academic studies easier.
